xtrabackup doesn't pick up --innodb-log-group-home-dir config parameter

Description

We use xtrabackup to create and prepare backups on an NFS mount. We have about 20 database instances and create weekly full backups. Every week 1-2 backups are failing due to some NFS related problem (“The redo log file ./#innodb_redo/#ib_redo0 size … is not a multiple of innodb_page_size”). A working solution could be if the #innodb_redo resource could be used from a local (not mounted) folder.

The problem/bug is that it seems that xtrabackup doesn’t pick up the related configuration parameter. Tried three ways:

  • through command line parameter to xtrabackup command (--innodb-log-group-home-dir)

  • through .cnf file:

    • [xtrabackup] block, innodb_log_group_home_dir parameter

    • [mysqld] block, innodb_log_group_home_dir parameter
