The last test run was triggered against Percona Server for PostgreSQL v.17.4.1. This enables us to also compare the segment encryption and to ensure durability.

Issue was addressed now, by setting the hints bits by count(*) before the benchmark run. Without WAL, results look good now, and andreas is currently testing WAL encryption as well. Waiting for the results

Testing is ongoing, and look at https://perconadev.atlassian.net/browse/PG-1243?atlOrigin=eyJpIjoiOWUyZWRhMDY5NzM4NDAwOWJjZTkxMjUzYjM4NzFlNTMiLCJwIjoiaiJ9 for details about the “hint bit” issue, that we’ve found along the way.

Neither @Zsolt Parragi nor I were able to reproduce the issues, that Andreas saw. We believe, this is duo to the overall testing noise and differences in each testrun. Running is with a fixed time instead of transactions also produced better, more reliable results. Testing continues now with modified tests from ads

The testing is ongoing, and Andreas has already shared graphs and findings. It seems we do have a threshold issue at a specific client level, that gets way worse, with a larger database.
@Zsolt Parragi is looking into it, to see if we can spot the root cause of it.

We want to validate pg_tde with an external PostgreSQL consultant. This way, we get feedback from someone outside of the company but also from someone who is well known in the community and also knows exactly what and how to test.
