Hi
On sftp uploaded files are not there, maybe removed due to our data retention policy.
Could you please let us know this issue still exists?
It would be great if you can try backup with the latest version xtrabackup 2.4.18. As Sergei this could be due to data corruption on the mysql server.

Just for reference - i tried mysql enterprise backup (4.1.3 trial) on same system - it had no issues doing a backup-and-apply-log

While doing a --prepare on a backup, xtrabackup dies with this error
I'ts not concistently dying at the same spot in the process - and i have tried several backup's - but it's still failing.
have tried both extrabackup 2.4.12 and 2.4.13
server is running on fedora 29
mysql is oracle mysql 5.7.25 from source
