Alert: MongoS is down

Description

This is a FR to have this alert as part of PMM.

MongoS are the components between the application and the sharded cluster, and are responsible to routing the queries and the write operations to the corresponding shards.

Like we have for other services (MongoD, MysqlD, etc) it is important to be alerted if a MongoS is down so users can check what happened and take immediate actions to restore the availability of the impacted MongoS service.

How to test

Set up sharded cluster. Create alert rule based on “MongoDB down” template. Bring a mongos node down. Verify the alert is received.

When used with a sharded cluster, alerts based on current “MongoDB down” alert template can be used to alert on unavailability of:

  • config servers

  • arbiters

  • data bearing nodes

  • mongos routers
